The cow is called 'us mem' which means our mother in frysian.
There is also a horse, it's called 'us heit', our father (frysian).
Do not ask me why.
But i'm amazed there is a polish wikipedia site on Leeuwarden. Didn't expect that.

I can explain, why a horse and a cow are called “our father” and “our mother” (even if it’s a bit strange, that Polish guy know such things… ):
Frisian people are farmers for a long time and they were always very proud of their independence – they could always produced own food. Horses were helping them (Frisian folks) with the work on fields and later on (after death) horse’s skin was used to produce cloths and such.
The same about cows: these animals can provide a lot of food (milk and all milk products you can only imagine plus meat) and, of course, skin as well. That’s why “Frisian parents” are a horse and a cow
